BVT LAB BOOK Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the BVT LAB BOOK web application available at www.bvtlabbook.com.

Our Commitment

BVT Publishing is committed to providing equal access to the BVT LAB BOOK web application for all students, including those with accessibility needs. Accessibility is integrated into the content, design, and development workflow of LAB BOOK as early as possible in the process, in line with our mission of producing quality, affordable learning materials that support students in higher education.

Conformance Status

The BVT LAB BOOK web application conforms with the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level A and Level AA, as documented in our VPAT 2.5 (WCAG Edition) report dated March 2026.

Accessibility conformance is evaluated at a point in time and may be affected by subsequent product updates. The LAB BOOK platform is continuously updated, and we re-evaluate accessibility as changes are released.

Evaluation Methods

The following methods were used to evaluate the accessibility of BVT LAB BOOK:

  • Manual screen reader testing with NVDA on Windows
  • Keyboard-only navigation testing across all major user flows
  • Automated scanning with axe DevTools and WAVE browser extensions
  • Source code review of all application views and modules
  • Color contrast analysis using the WebAIM Contrast Checker

Additional Accessibility Features

Beyond WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance, BVT LAB BOOK includes the following built-in accessibility features:

  • Text-to-Speech — read-aloud with system voice selection, adjustable speech rate (0.5×–4×), pitch control, pause and resume, 15-second skip navigation, and visual highlighting of the current reading position.
  • Page Zoom — adjustable zoom from 50% to 200% via the built-in accessibility panel, independent of browser zoom.
  • Dyslexia-Friendly Fonts — eight font options (including Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, Tahoma, Trebuchet MS, Times New Roman, and Courier New) that can be applied globally to improve readability.
  • Preference Persistence — zoom level, font selection, and reading position are saved across sessions.

Known Limitations

BVT LAB BOOK embeds video content through the standard YouTube player. Inside that player's iframe, YouTube's own script renders markup — including thumbnail images, a container with a conflicting ARIA label, and a channel-avatar control — that does not fully meet WCAG 2.1. This markup is generated by YouTube and cannot be modified by the application. All LAB BOOK iframes that host the YouTube player carry descriptive title attributes on the elements we control.
