Description

New to This Edition

Working with BVT has given us the exciting challenge of redesigning the book to make it even more user friendly. We were also able to enhance the text with BVTLab®, which further supports instructors and students alike. All materials have been updated with a special focus on the latest available approved drugs in all therapeutic classifications. These updates include the following:

• Deleted all medications no longer in use and updated new ones on the market
• Added newer combination inhaled pulmonary medications
• Updated information on COVID-19 and RSV that includes current treatment and exposure prevention guidelines
• Updated type 2 diabetic medications to include those approved for weight loss
• Added fentanyl abuse information
• Updated vaccine information and schedules • Updated all medication guidelines
• Enhanced the monoclonal antibody therapy section
• Updated asthma and COPD information, including new GOLD guidelines, with the latest assessment and treatment guidelines
• Enhanced photographic appendices that help group the LABAs, SABAs,
LAMAs, SAMAs, ICSs, and other inhaled medication categories for visualization enhancement
• Updated and added relevant websites

It is also very important to note what we did not change: We strove to maintain the same user-friendly writing style that has been well received in previous editions and to keep the rich use of analogies that has helped students to truly learn the material—rather than requiring them to rely on massive short-term memorization.
